NANA Girls and Women Empowerment (LHAAT members) will continue to monitor the situation and engage relevant stakeholders to ensure that the remaining needs are addressed.

The first time members of the NANA Girls and Women Empowerment Initiative, who make up the LHAAT in Gwandu Local Government Area, visited the health facility in Gwandu Marafa Ward, they wrote down what was missing. On Thursday 20 August 2026 they went back to see what had happened since.

What the second visit found

An access road had been constructed, making it easier for community members to reach the facility; the team records it as a project of the Chairman of Gwandu Local Government. A staff accommodation building had been built and the premises fenced. A borehole had been installed to give the facility easier access to water, also credited to the Chairman. And more pregnant women were attending the facility for check-ups than at the time of the first visit.

What is still missing

The facility still needs a delivery bed, a midwife, an additional female cleaner, additional security personnel, and an electricity generator and solar power system. The LHAAT members will keep monitoring and engaging the relevant stakeholders until these are addressed.

The same month the Gwandu team visited PHC Tari, Danjema and Dalijan health facilities and recorded their needs in the same way, from waiting chairs and delivery kits to laboratory reagents and solar power, so that there is a written baseline to return to.

Based on the second monitoring visit report by Nura Umar, media person, NANA Girls and Women Empowerment Initiative, Gwandu LGA (20 August 2026). The report does not attribute the improvements to LHAAT advocacy and this story does not either; the attendance increase was not quantified.
