Residents of Gabari community in Kufena Ward, Zaria Local Government Area, gathered at Health Clinic Gabari on 19 July 2026 for a town hall meeting organised by PHC Anguwan Dankali. It was the first time the facility’s town hall had been held in Gabari itself rather than at the PHC, which allowed more community members, leaders, ward development committee members, health workers and partner staff to take part.
What was discussed
The Facility In-Charge of PHC Anguwan Dankali, Malama Aisha Balarabe, led the meeting and spoke on antenatal care, skilled delivery, postnatal care, routine immunisation, environmental sanitation and the ongoing registration for free health services for pregnant women and children under five. The ward development committee secretary encouraged eligible residents to enrol in the KADCHMA health insurance scheme, and the Ward Focal Person, Malama Fatima Abdullahi, announced that three community leaders had been selected to support routine immunisation and reduce diphtheria cases.
The LHAAT representative from IIGES, which implements the ICSA project in Zaria LGA, explained the team’s role in monitoring PHC services and advocating for solutions to the problems it finds. The District Head of Gabari, Malam Bashir Sani Yusuf, closed by urging families to use PHC services and to obtain National Identification Numbers.
Outcomes
Participants left with a clear understanding of the official cost of antenatal services and of the free services available at the clinic. One community member said the explanation matched exactly what his family had paid and had cleared up a misunderstanding. Residents asked for earlier notice and better mobilisation for future meetings, and stakeholders agreed on larger venues and stronger engagement of women.
