On 5 July 2026 LHAAT members in Gwandu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, who work under the NANA Girls and Women Empowerment Initiative, made a monitoring and support visit to two primary health centres in Gulmare Ward: Gitta Birni PHC and Illela PHC. The heads of both facilities received the team and cooperated fully with the visit.
A change at home
At Gitta Birni PHC the team met a caregiver who said the programme’s community awareness work had already made a difference in her household: her family had agreed to bring their daughter to the facility for a malaria vaccination after earlier reluctance about routine immunisation. She credited the continuous awareness visits of LHAAT member Bello Gitta, who goes from house to house in Gitta encouraging families to take children and pregnant women to the health facility.
The team commended Bello Gitta for his dedication. A fuller account of the caregiver’s story will be published once her written consent has been recorded.
